International Week of Caring Celebrates Child Advocacy
Hannah Neil World of Children Awards and The Caring Institute
partner to found week-long celebration
(November 11, 2002)
The Hannah Neil World of Children
Awards has announced the creation of a partnership with The Caring
Institute, based in Washington, D.C. to create the International
Week of Caring.
A week-long set of activities is
planned to celebrate children's advocates and promote the values
of caring, integrity, and public service in the United States and
around the world.
The partnership will be joined
locally by: Children’s Hospital, United Way of Central Ohio,
Children’s Hunger Alliance, FIRSTLINK, Columbus Coalition Against
Family Violence, Catholic Social Services and The Junior League.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the WOC presents two separate
$100,000 awards honoring those who dedicate their lives to serving
children; The Kellogg’s Child Development Award and the Cardinal
Health Children's Care Award.
For more than 15 years, the Caring
Institute has celebrated those individuals whose life's work
provides service to the disadvantaged, the poor, the disabled, and
the dying. Now, for the first time, these two organizations have
come together with local, national and international leaders to
celebrate those whose lives are focused on improving the human
race with their long-standing commitments to caring.
The week-long celebration kicks off Nov.16, 2002, in Columbus,
Ohio, with the WOC Awards event where six honorees will be
recognized for their extraordinary contributions to children. The
week’s activities will continue in Washington, D. C. with a speech
by President Carter entitled “How to Make the World a More Caring
Place” to be held Nov. 19 at the Kennedy Center.
