COLUMBUS, OH (May 28, 2002) - The world's most prestigious award program in children's advocacy - the Hannah Neil World of Children Awards - doubled in size today when World of Children, Inc. announced the addition of Cardinal Health, Inc. (NYSE:CAH) as its next major award sponsor. Cardinal Health, the leading provider of products and services supporting the health care industry, will sponsor an annual "Cardinal Health Children's Care Award" recognizing individuals who have made a significant lifetime contribution to the health and well-being of children. This new award, as well as the original award underwritten by founding sponsor Kellogg Company (NYSE:K), is accompanied by $100,000 to be used for charitable purposes. These awards will be presented on Nov. 16, 2002, in Columbus, Ohio, by boxing legend and humanitarian Muhammad Ali, the honorary event chair.
"We are delighted to work with such outstanding partners as World of Children and Kellogg Company on this important initiative," said Carole Watkins, executive vice president of human resources, Cardinal Health, and chair of the Cardinal Health Foundation. "As an international company focused on health care, we are particularly pleased to sponsor an award that reminds us how one person can choose to make a powerful difference in children's health and quality of life. We're looking forward to the opportunities this award will create for individuals who have worked so compassionately and effectively for so long."
"The Cardinal Health Children's Care Award will enable us to shine light on the work of even more amazing child advocates who might otherwise go unnoticed," said David W. Lippy, president of World of Children, Inc. "Our partnership with Cardinal Health, and our initial sponsor, Kellogg Company, will allow us to recognize service to children as an honorable pursuit and support making children's issues central to the future of all societies around the world."
Founding sponsor Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund, in its fifth year of sponsorship, will present the Kellogg's Child Development Award. "We are pleased to partner with Cardinal Health to increase the scope of the World of Children Award program," said George Franklin, vice president of external affairs, Kellogg Company, and president of Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund. "With this additional award, we can bring more support and attention to those ordinary people doing truly extraordinary things to improve children's lives."
