World of Children, Inc. is pleased to announce the establishment of an innovative educational program that will focus on the life and work of each Honoree. The purpose of this new program is to bring elementary school children closer to these extraordinary people as well as learning about the world around them.

The program has been titled “Kids' Town Hall Meeting,” and World of Children, Inc. foresees the event held annually as a kick-off to the main-event, the Awards dinner and celebration.

Beginning this fall World of Children, Inc. will be working with six area elementary schools. The schools include Columbus Academy, Fifth Avenue Elementary, Goshen Lane Elementary, Hannah Neil Center for Children, Highpoint Elementary, and Clintonville Academy. Each school will pick representatives from their fifth grade classes to be assigned one of the honorees from either the Kellogg’s Child Development Award, or The Cardinal Health Children’s Care Award.

The participating classes will have from the beginning of the school year in September, until the award ceremony in November to study the honoree. They will do this through special projects focused on the honoree and their country.

Lesson plans for the participating schools and teachers have been developed. Each school will be free to implement and teach the suggested curriculum in any way they see appropriate.

Participating children will be encouraged to study modern day heroes and learn from incredible role models, explore a new culture and explore a myriad of issues affecting the world’s children. During the process of discovery and study we hope to enhance their library and Internet research skills as well as improve their writing and communication capabilities. Lessons will blend geography, history, art, social studies, and travel.

On November 15th the day before the Awards dinner and celebration, the classes will come to the Aladdin Shrine Center for our first “Kids' Town Hall Meeting.” Classes will be encouraged to bring any projects, artwork, or book reports they have completed as part of their course of study.

Students will be able to meet the honoree they have been studying and communicating with prior to the event. The children will then have the opportunity to meet all of the honorees in a “Town Hall” setting and ask the panel of honorees questions.

First Lady of Columbus, Frankie Coleman and WBNS News Channel 10 anchor Andrea Cambern have agreed to co-host the “Kid’s Town Hall Meeting.”

World of Children Inc. is very excited to be work with these schools and students. It is our hope the children will learn a little about these extraordinary people and perhaps consider how they might do their part to make the world and better and safer place for children worldwide.

A special word of thanks to Fifth Third Bank, Bob Evans, OSU Medical Center and Impulse Wear for becoming what we hope will be the first of many sponsors for the “Kids' Town Hall Meeting.”

We look forward to working with additional companies to sponsor and help us promote the event as well. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please contact World Of Children Inc.
