The World of Children, Inc. has partnered with Leaders Today, an
international organization dedicated to helping young people realize
their fullest potential through leadership, education, community service
and development. The Toronto, Canada-based organization is an outgrowth
of Kids Can Free the Children, founded by Craig Kielburger. Craig is the
2002 recipient of the World of Children Founder’s Award, a scholarship
given annually to a young person making a difference in the lives of
other young people. Craig is also a 2002 and 2003 Nobel Peace Prize
nominee.
Using interactive, inspiring and innovative curriculum developed by
outstanding young leaders, members of Leaders Today motivate and educate
thousands of young people around the world each year.
Approximately six weeks before the 2003 World of Children Kids’ Town
Hall Meeting, Craig Kielburger and his team from Toronto will visit
Columbus to provide training to students from the 12 local elementary
schools that are participating in the Kids’ Town Hall Meeting and
studying one of the seven World of Children Award honorees.
The purpose of the three-hour workshops is to familiarize the students
with service based learning concepts as well as develop their leadership
qualities and skills — and have fun in the process. Topics of the
customized workshops include:
† Issue Awareness
† Team Building
† Public Speaking
† Facilitating Meetings
† How to Raise Public Awareness
† How to Raise Funds
† How to start a service project
The workshops will be hands-on and highly interactive between the
children and the Leaders Today team. Input on the programming will come
from the teachers and administrators of the participating elementary
schools.
We anticipate the workshops will lead to some type of service project by
the schools that will connect them to the award honoree they have been
studying. The training they receive in the workshops will provide them
the skills necessary to move forward with a service project in advance
of meeting their honorees face-to-face.
Benefits of the 2003 Leadership Training Program
1. Elementary school children will have the unique opportunity to
combine their studies of the World of Children honorees (modern-day
heroes and role models) with the knowledge and skills they acquire from
the workshops, leading to service-oriented projects for either the
honorees and/or their local communities.
2. Children will have the opportunity to learn a number of important
skill sets from other young people who have been trained specifically to
help as facilitators in these customized workshops.
3. The workshops will be tailored to meet the backgrounds and learning
needs of each participating school and student, providing relevant and
important learning experiences.
4. The participating schools will have the opportunity to learn from
each other through team-building dynamics built into the workshop,
underscoring the importance of working together as a community with a
common goal.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The World of Children Kids’ Town Hall meeting provides a unique
sponsorship opportunity for one company or a group of synergistic and
noncompetitive companies. We are happy and willing to talk to companies
of any nature or size.
Sponsorship Models
World of Children is open to evaluating a variety of partnership models.
Any company interested in stepping forward at an early date would enjoy
the advantage of working with The World of Children to design a
sponsorship program customized to maximize its exposure and meet its
specific needs. A right of first refusal for the second year would be a
major consideration.
