J. Terrance Davis, M.D. Honoree Kellogg's Child Development Award |
|
"As I explore the next phase of my mission work, I continue to be inspired by the work of my fellow HONOREES, and have gained many ideas from them."
J. Terrance Davis, M.D., has dedicated much of his life to providing cardiac care to under-served children through volunteer efforts in the United States and in developing nations. As a cardiac surgeon in Columbus, Ohio, Davis has provided free heart surgery for children in need, conducted cardiac surgery training for physicians working in underprivileged nations, and personally donated much-needed medical supplies to cardiac care facilities throughout the world. Davis spent many years operating a volunteer work program in Lima, Peru, where he performed surgeries and recruited hospital volunteers. Since he recently retired from active cardiac surgery, he has taken his final group to Peru. However, he is dedicated to continuing mission work on behalf of indigent children in third world countries. An exploratory trip is set for fall 2004 to look at opportunities to help children on the African continent. Davis hopes to finalize plans for the next phase by the spring of 2005.
